Necdet Turhan, Turkey's first blind mountain climber, has completed his climb to Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain at 5895 meters, in September 2008. The climb took six days to complete, and he returned to the city of Arussa in Tanzania after this great achievement.During the climb, after reaching camp Baranco located at 3950 meters, Turhan started having some difficulties.
This rocky segment of the climb was completed in 9 hours, when Turhan, with his team consisting of two local guides Ernest Minja and David Moshi, and his trainer Nevzat Ontas, reached camp Barafu at 4600 meters.
Wellcome Hello, welcome to my personal website.
I am a blind sportsman. I run marathons in the Masters Category and go mountain-climbing by means of an original technique. In 1994 I graduated with honours from the Political Science and Public Administration Department of Middle East Technical University, one of Turkey’s distinguished universities, which gives education in English, and I began to do sport during my years there. As I have already stated, I strive to do mountaineering and athletics to the best of my ability. I am at present in the position of being the only blind sportsman in Turkey who goes mountaineering and runs marathons.
